BEINGS OF LIGHT
I. THE PERFECT HALO OF GOLD HAIR AND LIGHTNING
Angels are servants of goodness, light, and purity. However, even if they are servants, they have their own free-will. They are not omniscient beings, but possess great knowledge due to experience over the eternity of their existence. It is not certain when the first angel was created, but angels seem to be a recycled energy. Angels do not reproduce among themselves (though there are cases where they have reproduced with humans — their offspring called “Nephilim”). Rather, certain human souls have “Ascended” and have become angels, and demons have sometimes repented in the woods of Purgatory and have become angels.
What makes an angel an angel is their “grace”, an energy related to an angel’s power and purity. Without grace, an angel would become mortal. They would age, be able to reproduce, and die. Their angelic existences would eventually convert into a soul, with which they would eventually return to a place they deserved. An angel cannot simply “remove” their grace without pain to a terrible degree. Grace looks like a white smoke with its own light source. Even without grace, though, angels can retain some of their abilities (such as the strength and intelligence). The removal of grace would result in the loss of any memory regarding angelhood, though it can be regained. They would still be able to hear angels and their telepathic conversations.
The true form of an angel would be much too powerful to behold. Normal humans cannot look upon an angel’s true form without burning up, though humans with Sight can survive such an exposure. Angels are rarely in their true forms, but they are at their most powerful when in their true forms. Their true forms are difficult to visualize, and being in the true form can be very disorienting for the angel. The angel would not be able to retain emotion or a certain amount of conscious control. Weaker angels cannot control or handle their true forms. Angels usually take on a projected form and must do so while on Earth and Purgatory. To stay an extended time on Earth, angels must take on vessels, humans that are able to host (usually the ones with Sight). Angels cannot take on vessels without the consent of the human host. Demons do not need consent (though for the purpose of the roleplay, PLEASE ask the roleplayer before you possess!) All angel classes can communicate with each other through telepathy, and angels can communicate with demons through telepathy… though why would you want to?
For the purpose of the board, all Angels of all ranks must have a biblical reference, which would serve as a “true name”, though the use of the true name would be rare. The name could be used to harm an angel and the true name is required in spells to heal or hurt the specific angel. You can find names here. Angels usually don’t go by their true names because of the gravity a true name bears. They have human names and usually go by their human names. Their human names change with the eras, of course.
II. SETS YOU OFF AGAINST THE PLANETS LAST DANCE
There are several types of Angels. Archangels (referred as “Monarchs” or “Archs”), Seraphim (the Virtues), the common Angel, Cherubim (also called Cupids), and Rit Zien (Angels especially skilled with healing).
Archangels are the ascended King and Queen of Heaven. They are the most powerful of the Angels, despite being newly ascended. Technically the humans that ascend the throne are imbued with the power that descends on them like a spirit, giving them knowledge and power above all else. That spirit leaves after a certain time, to descend upon the next pair for King and Queen. A King and Queen ascends as a pair and there is a sort of sense who has the aura (or capability) of becoming King and Queen, though a person can refuse to become an Archangel and not accept the spirit. Archangels are technically the eldest of angels as their power is derived from the spirit that endowed the first angel, but is at the same time the youngest. There must be a male and female in the pair, to represent the masculine and feminine sides of humanity.
Archangels have all the abilities possessed by angels, but at the highest level with increased strengths and powers. They are looked upon by other Angels with reverence and are described as “absolute”, though there are some Angels that are discontent that they cannot work for that power (though that doesn’t mean you can’t work to be close to that). Some of their abilities and strengths include immortality (until their reign is over and a new pair is selected), super strength, telekinesis, telepathy, memory manipulation, time manipulation (though this is limited), and regeneration, to name a few. Of course, Archangels do have their weaknesses, such as using their own weapon, Archangel blades whose form depends on the particular Archangel’s preference, against them. You could kill them if you were able to obtain their Archangel blades. Holy oil could be used to trap them. The Scythe of Death usually kills Angels, but in this case, it can only mortally wound Archangels.
Archangels, because of their connection to humanity, can stay on Earth as long as they wish in the form they had as humans.
Seraphim (Seraph for singular) are also known as the Virtues. There are only seven of them: Chastity, Temperance, Charity, Diligence, Patience, Kindness, and Humility. Their opposites on the demonic side, in order corresponding to the order above, are Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride. Seraphim are below Archangels, but above all other angelic ranks. Their virtue labels are the values that they are able to influence on Earth when they walk around Earth personally. For example, the presence of the Seraph of Charity can influence humans to commit charitable acts. The Seraphim are dependent on humans to have such qualities to fuel their powers (and so goes the ongoing yearly battle between Charity and Greed during the holiday seasons //cough). They would be rendered weaker if humans were to fully succumb to all the sins. An average Angel may move up the ranks to become a Seraphim if there is a position vacant. Seraphim powers weaken when they are away from Heaven for an extended period of time.
If they wish to stay on Earth long, they would require a vessel, and that vessel much consent. Their vessel must have Sight to be able to handle the Seraph presence within them. They can stay on Earth longer with a projected form than an average Angel. Seraphs are immortal and cannot be killed by conventional human methods. They can be killed with Angelic blades and are vulnerable to the common angelic weaknesses. Archangels could easily kill Seraphim and Fallen Souls are powerful enough to slay a Seraphim, or mortally wound one.
Their powers/abilities include: superhuman stamina (they require no sleep or food and never tire), super strength (can carry up to 2,000 pounds), telepathy (though they cannot read the minds of Archangels unless they are permitted), resurrection, mental manipulation, and soul reading.
Angels are the bulk of heaven’s populace. They are celestial beings meant serve Light and Heaven. They exist in a plane separate from humanity. As warriors of God and agents of Fate, Angels are extremely powerful beings in the supernatural world. They are superhuman beings superior to mortals in both power and intelligence. Their true spiritual forms or visages prove overwhelming to most mortals; however, some 'special' people can view their true visages without suffering lasting effects; demons also can't look at them in their true form without damaging their hosts. They are nearly invulnerable, but enochian magic and weapons that are specifically made to hurt angels can kill them off. Angels consider themselves family to one another, referring to each other as brothers and sisters.
Angels have a wide array of abilities. Angels start with the following abilities, grouped under the name of just 'angelic abilities': angelic possession, superhuman strength, stamina, immortality, teleportation, and exorcismal touch. Angels can gain other abilities, as blessed from higher ups, or through experience. However, for the purpose of the board, they are allowed these abilities to start.
If they wish to stay on Earth long, they would require a vessel, and that vessel much consent. The vessel does not need Sight. They can stay on Earth in projected forms for a short period of time (about two weeks).
Cupids (or Cupid for singular) are the lowest class of Angels. They somehow fancy themselves as deities, but really, they don’t mean much harm. Though Cupids have few powers in terms of fighting, they do possess some amazing powers over manipulating emotions, that seemingly no other type of angel possesses.
Only Cupids can use Pathokenisis, and that power is controlled through the use of a Cupid’s Bow. The Cupid shoots at targets, and is able to control not just love, but hatreds. Because Cupids are the lowest on the angelic order, they don’t need to possess a human in order to stay on Earth at all. In fact, they can’t. They still have basic powers such as invisibility, teleportation, invulnerability, and immortality.
Rit Zien are a rare class of Angels that you could say are a bit more powerful than the average angel but are lower on the hierarchy than the Virtues. Their specialty is healing. They have all the powers of an angel, but they have a special ability to detect pain. They have a special smiting ability which allows them to kill a person (or angel) quickly without suffering pain. Their smiting so powerful it destroys the entire body of the target.
Guardian Angels are a special class of angel that can't really be placed on the hierarchy. Unlike most angels, they spend all their time on Earth, bounded to a single human from the moment of birth to the moment of death. Their main objective is to protect their bonded human from demons. Their strength could be compared to the normal angelic populace. Not every human has a Guardian Angel. Some humans have lost their Guardian Angels to demons, especially if they had tampered with sins and vices.
III. JUST FOR A MINUTE, THE SILVER-FORKED SKY
Despite being a fairly constant, eternal race, angels have the possibility of not staying angels forever, or not simply existing as angels initially.
Those that are not angels and are interested in becoming angels must Ascend. Particularly holy humans have ascended, and have the purest of auras. An example of an Ascended human would be Joan of Arc. Keep in mind, Ascending is a somewhat rare event. It is far more easy for a human to become a demon. The majority of Ascended humans had Sight. Both Archangels are present during Ascension, and guide the human to the heavens. You can tell if an angel was once a human because they will have a necklace around their neck bearing a feather of an Archangel.
A fallen angel can become an angel by regaining favor with heaven. Their grace is not removed, but their grace is dormant. They must reawaken their grace and be able to take back their missing wing.
Angels can stop being angels by becoming fallen angels (or one-winged). They either voluntarily leave, or heaven expels them. They would fall into Purgatory, and can find their way out to Earth to live as humans. They can also become humans by removing their grace (and in turn, they can give their grace away to someone without grace). Both processes are painful, but this happens when Angels lose sight of heaven or have given in and want to stop serving humanity.
IV. LIFTS YOU UP LIKE A STAR THAT I WILL FOLLOW
The King and Queen are chosen in the event that they cannot perform their duties, resign from the throne, or their time is deemed finished. The King and Queen are usually not chosen from the angelic hierarchy. Usually, they are chosen from Earth to keep a sense of neutrality. It doesn’t matter if the human has Sight or not — though it is often that it is a human with Sight. Once one is chosen, they would Ascend and would take the throne.
Pray that you do not have to witness the fall of Archangels.
